How do sharks communicate?

There are almost 1000 species of sharks present all over the world with new species discovered every year.

Sharks are the top predator among marine animals and they maintain the marine balance. With the decline inning shark population, many marine regions suffer overpopulation of different fish species and also leading to the destruction of aquatic plant life.

Sharks are threatened because of overfishing and the killing of sharks for different human benefits.

How shark communicates

Sharks can't make noise. They communicate by their body language example by opening their jaws, keeping their head up or down, changing body posture.

1. Sharks swimming parallel to each other

When two sharks were swimming slowly parallel two each other, basically it is done to compare the size and show who is big and stronger. The weaker shark turns back and swims away.

2. shark jumping out of the water and opening its jaws

This is a kind of frustration they show when they failed to catch their prey.

3. sharks hunch their back

When sharks feel threatened in their region they hunch their back or change their body posture in response to that threat.

They also do this kind of behaviour when they feel nervous.

4. Swimming speed

If sharks were swimming very fast it shows their aggressive nature. If they were calm and moving slowly then they were non-aggressive.

5. How sharks were swimming

If sharks were swimming in a zig-zag direction it shows their aggressive behaviour.

Ways to avoid a shark attack

1. Do not wear shiny jewellery when swimming.

2. Don't urinate in the ocean.

3. do not swim in the ocean if you are bleeding or you have an open wound as sharks can smell blood.

4. If you encounter a shark stay calm and keep eye contact with the shark and slowly move to a safe place.

5. Most important way is to research the area in which you are going swimming.
